Real success stories from our DON’T QUIT! Champion Schools

It makes fitness fun!  It’s a lot more fun than just going out to the track and running.  So the fitness center is a motivator for us to get moving and have fun at the same time!  Thank you for choosing our school for the fitness center.”

Audrey Renella

Student, Northview Intermediate, California

The fitness center has raised the self-esteem of many students who struggle in the typical physical education setting.  These students have found a huge amount of success from working out in the fitness center.  Moreover, students are excited and look forward to school days when they are in the fitness center.

Diana Bogust

Physical Education Teacher, Owatin Creek Elementary, Pennsylvania

We already have kids coming to us with ideas on how to use the fitness center at different points throughout the day!  We have used the center as a behavioral intervention by taking several kiddos who need to refocus in there, letting them work out for 10-15 minutes, and getting them back to class to be successful.  Teachers are forming clubs after school.  A group of female teachers are piloting and all-girls club to work out a few days a week.  WOW!  This center has really brought out the best in all of my staff.

Adam Burtsfield

Principal, Ring Lardner Middle School, Michigan

Our hearts are overflowing today!  The school is getting calls from an excited community and the teachers and staff are challenging each other and students to set fitness goals.  The students are talking about becoming stronger, healthier, and how much fun they are going to have doing it!

Lisa Puller

District Coordinator, West County Middle School, Missouri

I can tell you that without this program, a facility like this would not be in this rural part of Louisiana.

John Bel Edwards

Governor of Louisiana

I just wanted to email you guys and let you know how grateful I truly am.  This new fitness center is even better than I imagined. This is going to naturally motivate the students to get in there and improve their fitness.  This is the best gift and opportunity this school has ever received.

Brad Hull

Physical Education Teacher, Everitt Middle School, Colorado

The fitness center brings our physical education program into full circle.  We are expected to keep students active for most of PE time, but that was impossible due to our lack of space and resources.  Not anymore!  Each student works hard for 30 minutes 3 to 5 times a week.  The students say they feel better throughout the day and are more able to focus.  Plus, our fitness scores have improved!

Nancy Brough

Physical Education Teacher, Bear River Middle School, Utah

Jake and the NFGFC team did such a great job making this happen for our schools and talking to the kids and school leadership about how this fitness room gift can make a big impact of the lives of students.  The DON’T QUIT! project is really incredible and we are so lucky to have crossed paths.

Karin Wetherill

Co-Director, Rhode Island Healthy Schools Coalition

The Fairfield fitness center has inspired a large population of our students to improve their overall fitness levels.  The fitness center has allowed our student body to have access to equipment they would never have access to in the community.  Students are excited to get in the fitness center and it has improved the students’ attitude about physical activity.

Diane Jones

Department Chair, Fairfield Middle School, Virginia

I am eternally grateful to Jake Steinfeld and his staff for what they have done for Mauldin Middle School.  The students have already been using the room and the smiles on their faces are priceless.

Celene Tepedino

Physical Education Teacher, Mauldin Middle School, South Carolina

As a teacher, I can see the fitness center has built confidence in students who were previously struggling.  Our students are motivated now to be healthy, fit, and work hard.  The skills they are learning will definitely carry over to future health habits.

Educational Support Services, Northview Intermediate, California

The future is bright at WCMS with the winning of the National Foundation for Governor’s Fitness Councils gift.  This fitness center will not only touch the lives of current students at West County but future students for years to come.
